After seeing Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla I had a weird dream in which I was addicted to this guy, so the next day – with the dream still lingering - I decided to look him up.
If you google pictures of him you might get the impression he’s one of those pretty model-type guys that get roles because of their kinda boringly good looks, but gawd damn, Tom happens to be a brilliant character actor (trapped in a leading mans body, indeed). One of those guys who seem to disappear into a role 100% - body and soul. Yes, the best kind in that line of profession. I was doomed to be hooked.
I’m working through his imdb-list at the moment and the highpoint of what I’ve seen him in is by far the TV movie Stuart: A Life Backwards (I couldn’t find it at first but YouTube saved me, hallelujah.). Tom plays Stuart, a homeless lovable alcoholic, and does so frickin’ perfectly. And yeah, it’s also a very funny touching movie. Watch it. (part one) (I’m fighting for the DVD on eBay right this minute, hehe..)
I’m hoping to see Bronson soon, made by dane Nicolas Winding Refn (The guy who made “Pusher” and “Bleeder”!). They showed it at Sundance the other week, and it is supposed to be “an artsy masterpiece”. (trailer)
PS. The sidekick always stands by me and my obsessions. Matilda, these tom-pix are for you. xD
PS2. I won the DVD, wee!
