PETE WENTZ
46x62 cm
This was made pretty much just because I wanted another painting for the portrait exhibition (2007). I had no idea what to do. I can’t do a portrait just because, there must be something with the picture I paint that makes me really wanna paint it (at least if I want to finish it). Normally I could afford to be picky, but time was running out and I jumped on the first pic that spoke to me (the lips actually). It happened to be a photo of Pete Wentz.
I know many people just can’t stand this guy, and passionately hates him. I’m not one of them, but I’m far from a fan either. I mean, F.O.B. doesn’t make the kind of music I listen to or care about so they don’t matter to me in any way (but at least I know who they are, unlike 95% of the people who've seen the painting). In other words; In any other case I would pass on this photo and take the next one, but I only had four weeks left to paint so fuck it.
Finished the painting just a few days before the hanging. Since it was the newbie and my latest crush I was really protective of it. Also because it so obviously was in the shadow of Mos Def.
Problems with the portrait: Well, I hate it from a distance, but love it up close and I guess that’s something.
Fun fact: A photo of the painting can be found on Hopelessly Hopeful - a F.O.B. fansite - so at least a couple of people can judge it from a fans point of view.
