MOS DEF
54x64 cm

I’ve had a big crush on Ford Prefect since I first heard the Hitchhikers Guide radio show a couple of years ago, and when I saw the movie I started loving the character even more because Mos Def is just fuckin’ great. My sister gave me the movie as a christmas gift and I'd watched like six times when I decided to do this painting.

I had a black canvas I’d painted some time ago, bigger than anything I’ve worked on in years. Usually I have white background so I was more nervous than normal when I started this one. Took a long time before I could tell if it worked at all. If everything was in the right place and stuff. Turned out okay though :)

Must say the face on the painting confuse me. For periods of times I almost believed I was working on Thierry Henry (and people have guessed it’s him but I don’t know if that’s because it really looks like him or because they have no idea who Mos Def is and I’m a crazy Arsenal fan.) But in reality they look nothing the same!? Except they are black but common’.. But hell, I’ve been staring so much at the original photo and can’t even say that really looks like Mos.

Well, as long as it looks good I guess it doesn’t matter who it is staring back at ya.

I have a tendency to get very caught up with the painting when I’m working on it and it has its up and downs. Some day’s I’m completely in love with a detail or two, and the next I can’t stand to look at it at all and have to change whatever it is as soon as possible. I must say this one has been very kind to me. I’ve been in love most of the time and I’m proud of it.
