JAY ADAMS
40x40 cm

I love the '70s and the concept of skateboarding as a lifestyle, so obviously I think the Z-Boys were the coolest people ever. Made this portrait of Jay after watching Dogtown and Z-Boys for the first time in many years and once again falling for how fucking beautiful this crazy guy is. Not so much on the outside, but the idea of him and the way he was (is..).

I made this one in only 5 days, which was way too quick for my liking. The last couple of painting I’ve done I did for others, or they didn’t work out the way I wanted, so when I’m finally working on one that I’m really falling for, loves working with and hardly can’t let out of my sight, it’s pretty much a terrible feeling to let it go so quickly.

My biggest problem was the fricking wall! Jeez, it took hours to get it in a condition I could live with. The rest fell to place without any major problems. The detail I’m most satisfied with is the hair, and what bugs me the most is that you have to look at the paitning up close to appreciate it, since it’s pretty much just gray. It probably doesn’t fit anywhere so I doubt it will be sold, or even hung anywhere. But I love this portrait regardless. It can stand in my room forever, with the other rejects.
