BROTHERLY LOVE
38x46

In a search for Basketball Diaries stuff on eBay I stumbled upon a tiny Marky Mark clipping collection (From the 90’s that is, I’m not calling him Marky Mark to be mean;) . Anyway, I saw a picture with Mark and his big brother Donnie in there and just had to make a painting of it. Not enough time left to ask what the shipping would be (from USA) but took the chance and won the clippings ($0.99). Turned out the guy who sold it was really nice so he gave it to me for free, shipping and all.

I tend to forget that my paintings always looks like shit in the beginning. Like, really bad. If I don’t feel strongly for what I’m doing it’s very easy to just give up at that stage (Happened more than enough). This painting was no exception. Even worse than usual, but I came through.

The canvas I decided to use is a little bit bigger that what I usually work with (It was that or an even bigger one) and the picture didn’t have many details so it felt kind of new to me in a way. Much work just to get the skin tones to work and stuff. I’m happy with the result though.

My main problem was Mark’s eye. I remade it a couple of times, and after a while it scared me shitless. Couldn’t work on the painting for about a month or more because I was too scared I would fuck the whole thing up completely. Got over it eventually. Figured it was better to fuck up than give up. Finished pretty quickly after that.

The first stages.

I like it, but I doubt it will end up anywhere. In a loving home I mean, or even a non-loving wall. Few people around me would beg or pay for a big canvas with two dudes kissing - brothers or not. Sad but true.
