Guess this is my first real paint-job, hehe. My aunt needed an interesting birthday-present for a friend and turned to me. I got a couple of photos (of the same kid) to choose from and it took about two-three weeks for me to make it.

I would be happy if I never had to do another background in my whole life. I hate them. I suck at them. They’ll all haunt me forever. The background in this picture was especially complicated. It looked stunning in the photo, but in black and white it was a big grey mess. (What now looks like a really cloudy sky is actually fields of something. Not gold;) and I had no idea what to do with it. Anybody more cleaver than me could probably come up with something better to do, but I just tried to paint it like it was so.. Well, hopefully they’ll look at the kid and not the rest of it so much. Even if I’ll probably never see it again I can console myself with the knowledge it doesn’t look quite as depressing in real life as in these photos.

I’m happy with a couple of details, including the face. Photos trick you sometimes and it is often very hard to know what makes a person look like themselves, and since I’ve never actually seen the kid in real life I can’t say if it really looks like him, but at least it’s a nice-looking face.

The buyer was satisfied with the result and that’s the important thing.
